MCS certification from OFTEC
There is a growing interest in greener technology in the UK and, as a result, the demand for technicians who are suitably qualified to install renewable technology in consumer households is increasing.
Many heating engineers are already starting to broaden their services to offer renewables as consumer demand in this area increases. If you are an existing installer looking to expand into this area it is essential that you have your competence recognised in the industry through an MCS certification scheme.
By joining OFTEC’s MCS certification scheme you will demonstrate to customers that you are a competent installer which will provide them with confidence that the work you carry out will be completed to a high standard. This will help to develop your reputation and support the growth of your business in this increasingly competitive field.
What is MCS Certification?
MCS (microgeneration certification scheme) was developed to ensure technicians installing renewable technologies are suitably qualified and carry out installations in a professional and safe manner. The scheme also ensures that the products themselves are developed to a high industry standard. Accreditation of both the product and installer is required to claim payments through the Government RHI (Renewable Heat Incentive) scheme.
How do you join the OFTEC scheme?
In order to join OFTEC’s MCS scheme technicians must already be a registered competent person and are required to follow the MCS Installer Standards. OFTEC offers certification for technicians installing solar thermal and heat pump systems.
Solar Thermal Systems: This covers the supply and installation of solar heating systems. Technicians are required to have qualifications in four QCF units, details of which can be found in the OFTEC Renewables Registration section of this website.
Heat Pumps: This covers the supply and installation of heat pumps and also requires technicians to have gained qualifications in the four QCF units outlined on the Renewables Registration page.
Technicians may also be able to apply through the experienced worker route if they have undertaken the necessary training.
