Tuffa Tanks Ltd – Fire Stop tanks
The Chairman of the Competent Person Scheme Forum has notified OFTEC of an urgent communication between the Chief Executive of Local Authority Building Control (LABC) and Tuffa Tanks Ltd. This letter advises that the LABC certificate issued for Tuffa’s Fire Stop tanks is not being used fully in accordance with the terms and conditions which govern its use.
Specifically claims made regarding the scope of the certificate in trade articles and websites are misleading. If you have recently installed a Tuffa Fire Stop tank as an alternative to a fire barrier,
please be aware that it cannot be legally self certified. Instead, you will need to apply for LABC approval which can be done retrospectively. Without LABC approval, household insurance may be affected and it may affect a subsequent house sale.
